Soccer Million are keen to not only support adult non-league football but have a key part in enabling children to participate in the game. We are proud to be able to support The Welsh Schools Football Association – WSFA- and believe their provision for school children in Wales can continue to develop successfully in the future. Soccer Million are pleased to sponsor such a crucial part of football development in Wales and are confident that the WSFA can meet their aims.
The Welsh Schools Football Association – WSFA – was established in 1911 as a volunteer organization to enable all school children in Wales to access football, either by playing for school, college, county representative teams or international honours.
Throughout the year the WSFA have the challenging task to ensure the children in wales can
participate in well-structured, meaningful football provision. Each year, they hold a range of competitions for girls and boys at county level from under 10 – under 16. Primary age games are played as non-competitive festivals, while secondary age groups play league games, followed by semi-finals at the end of the season.
It is a great achievement that their inter schools’ competitions for under 11 – under 19 are regarded as the best Schools Cup competitions, with over 92% of schools in Wales entering. Soccer Million are keen to be able to support the WSFA in their aim of increasing participation year on year to 100%.
One of the Welsh Schools Football Associations newest achievements has been to set up a Primary Fives competition for under 11s. During this competition primary schools play local festivals culminating in a National Festival for representatives from each county. These games are for both boys and girls. Last season over 3,000 children took part from 8 counties. The WSFA hope to expand the competition in 2019-20 to double the number of counties involved, giving many more children the opportunity to play fun football.
Soccer Million hope that the sponsorship enables the Welsh Schools Football Associations to plan for future development with confidence, knowing they can continue to provide football for every child in Wales.
